FremantleMedia Enterprises Announces Key Deals For Controversial Documentary
FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) has announced two key TV and DVD deals for the controversial political documentary '638 Ways to Kill Castro'.
Produced by Daisy Goodwin’s Silver River Productions, the documentary has already caused a stir amongst the political world with its controversial content.
This remarkable 1 x 90’ story of smoking guns and smoking cigars has been snapped up by the Sundance Channel in the US, through a deal brokered by Lisa Honig, Vice President, Program Distribution, North America, and is set for broadcast later this year.
In a separate deal, Sam Toles, Vice President, Development & Home Entertainment, has also signed an exclusive DVD distribution deal with BCI, enabling them to bring a special edition DVD of this captivating program to the US market. Special features include interviews with former US President Jimmy Carter; controversial Congresswoman Ros-Lehtinen; Richard Goodwin, Aide to President John F. Kennedy as well as Director Dollan Cannell.
After announcing its acquisition of worldwide television distribution and home entertainment rights for the documentary in December, FME has received strong interest from international broadcasters and the programme was a key feature of their slate at NATPE in January.
638 Ways to Kill Castro, which recently aired on Channel 4 in the UK, explores the relationship between the USA and Cuba via the countless attempts to kill revolutionary leader Fidel Castro.
Along with interviews and archive, the film also features intriguing, seldom seen unfamiliar footage – of Castro the person, rather than the military man.
David Ellender, CEO FremantleMedia Enterprises commented: "The US has been at the centre of controversy surrounding Castro for many years and we are delighted to have secured both TV and DVD deals in this key market. By the very nature of its content, 638 Ways to Kill Castro is sure to prove challenging, thought-provoking and highly engaging to audiences and we are delighted that the programme will be aired by such a highly respected broadcaster as the Sundance Channel, and distributed on DVD by one of the leading independent suppliers."
