'An Gaeilgeoir Nocht' To Premiere At Kerry Film Festival

This year’s Kerry Film Festival, which runs from October 23-28, will feature the premiere screening of 'An Gaeilgeoir Nocht', directed by Neasa Hardiman.
An Gaeilgeoir Nocht, is a one hour drama commissioned under the new UAIR scheme funded by the Bord Scannan na hEireann/ the Irish Film Board, TG4 and the BCI.
Produced by Telegael and written by Marina Ní Dubháin, An Gaeilgeoir Nocht chronicles the story of Dublin Gaelgóir Eanna who attempts to combat the encroachment of English into his idyllic Irish world aided by Síoda, a Gaelic extremist. This dark comedy will screen on Saturday 28th October at 6.00pm in the Imperial Hotel, Tralee.
The Uair scheme was created to encourage the production of one hour Irish language films. The scheme has stemmed from the success of the short film scheme Oscailt.
Other Irish projects premiering at the festival include the documentary Up In Smoke, which tells the story of the 2004 smoking ban in Ireland. Up In Smoke was directed by Brian Scully and Gerald Fitzgibbon and produced by Eyebright Media with completion finance from the Irish Film Board. It will be broadcast on Sunday, October 29 at 3.00pm in the Imperial hotel, Tralee.
BSÉ/IFB live action and animated short films also feature heavily in the strong Kerry programme.
