Boris TV Invests In HD-Capable OB FOR-A Kit

In response to increased demand from its broadcast and production clients for HD programming, outside broadcast company Boris TV has upgraded its facilities by investing in HD-capable video switching and frame synchronisation equipment from FOR-A.
The order represents FOR-A’s first double sale in the UK of its HANABI HVS-500HS video switcher and FA-9000 frame synchroniser.
Surrey-based Boris TV specialises in multi-camera programming for outside broadcasts as diverse as the ITN election coverage, an equestrian event with Pippa Funnell, the BBC Good Food Show, a concert with Carlie Landsborough and conferences and exhibitions for PC World and Johnson & Johnson.
“We’ve been looking to upgrade our OB truck to HD for quite a while,” said Christopher Smith, Managing Director of Boris TV. “We’ve had FOR-A kit in the past and have been very impressed with not just the quality of the kit but also the quality of their support. When we spotted their range of HD HANABI vision mixers at last year’s IBC, we knew it would match our clients’ needs perfectly – allowing us to service our existing SD clients now, but also giving us the headroom to offer HD production.”
He continued: “There are similar units out there on the market, and we spent a long time looking at other options. But nothing matched FOR-A for their reputation when it comes to dealing with the demands of live production. Our clients accept nothing less than 100% reliability, and with FOR-A, we feel confident we can meet these demands.”
The HANABI HVS-500HS is a compact, self-contained HD/SD video switcher, which combines the easy operation and powerful features of FOR-A’s HANABI series. Accepting HD, SD, HDV and DV formats, it comes with 10-bit, 4:2:2 internal processing and is well suited for applications such as editing, studio production, mobile production, up-link vans, live production, broadcast television and live staging.
The FA-9000, dubbed ‘The Processor', is an HD/SD frame synchroniser which goes beyond the realms of a typical signal processor. It supports all video signal formats and comes with options for HD/SD up and down conversion, colour correction and Dolby E decoding.
