Time Delay.tv Have Been A Bleeping Success This Summer

Time Delay.tv have supplied censorship for both Channel 4’s ‘Big Brother’ and ITV’s ‘Love Island’ simultaneously this summer.
Time Delay.tv claim to be the UK and Europe’s only company dedicated to Broadcast Censorship of Live TX shows using their new switchable HD/SD Pipeline machine, which can instantly cut out profanity words and/or pictures.
Features include:
  • Up to 39-seconds SD delay
  • Up to 6-seconds HD delay
  • 10-bit video processing
  • Primary and auxiliary/alternate video inputs
  • 24-bit audio processing
  • AES/EBU audio, digital or analogue
  • 4 auxiliary/alternate audio inputs
  • Audio can be switched with or independent of video
  • Fits in standard 2U-high rack space
  • Built in synchronizer
A five second delay is used for the ITV Live TX shows, and for all the Live Streaming shows enabling the Pipeline to instantly cut sound/pictures or both, and inserting a secondary video/audio source. As soon as the offending word is heard, a button is pressed for as long as the expletive occurs. A built in reaction time is triggered, and five seconds later the word comes out clean. It is straightforward to operate and producers themselves can use it with a simple button trigger.
For 'Love Island, two Pipeline machines were used. One for the main feed, the second for the backup. However, one button push by the operator activates both machines in tandem.
For ‘Big Brother’, the Pipeline was used as the ‘final filter’ at the end of a 15 minute delay, just in case the profanity was not cut out at an earlier point.
Darryl Rose, Director, Time Delay.tv commented: "It’s always a real privilege to work alongside incredible production teams, as well as on some of the most successful award winning shows. Our clients trust Time Delay.tv because our equipment is highly unique to the industry. By supplying clients like Big Brother and Love Island, it shows that censorship and profanity is taken very seriously by the networks, and if OFCOM are happy then they are happy.”
Time Delay.tv helps eliminate the network’s fears, while the viewers at home will still watch an enjoyable show.
The Pipeline has also been used by ITV Sport on The World Cup, to delay the main feed by a few frames, to enable it to match the backup feed, which was not in sync, due to extra hops from satellites.
It can also be used to correct lip sync issues as the audio can be independently delayed/advanced in relation to the Video.
