Martin Hawkin Celebrated With Life Time Achievement Award

GTC member DoP Martin Hawkins has been awarded the top award at this year's Royal Television Society Craft and Design Awards: the Lifetime Achievement Award. He collected the award on Monday 21 November at the Savoy Hotel in London, during a ceremony hosted by Myleene Klass.
The RTS introduced the presentation with the following words:
"The recipient of this special award made his mark in the late 1980s, running across fields chasing a young woman in 'Challenge Anneka'. This is where he perfected his hand-held camera technique as well as getting extremely fit.
"Very soon he would make an even bigger impression on many of the top comedy series of the last 20 years, such as 'Drop the Dead Donkey', 'Birds of a Feather', 'Harry Enfield', 'Vicar of Dibley', 'Little Britain', Peter Kay's 'Live Shows', 'French and Saunders', 'Outnumbered', 'Armstrong and Miller' and 'The IT Crowd', to name but a few.
"His sense of humour and infectious laughter, combined with his skill at lighting and capturing the story, have made him the first choice for many producers and directors. He is a joy to work with. Martin has gone on to work especially well with writers/performers/directors such as Richard Ayoade on Garth Marenghi's ‘Darkplace’, and more recently with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant on ‘Extras’ and ‘Life's Too Short’."
The Guild of Television Cameramen (GTC) is an independent non-profit-making international organisation that cares about TV camerawork and the people who make it their craft. Formed in 1972, the GTC has over 1,000 members in countries as far afield as Australia, Russia, Singapore, South Africa and the USA. The majority work in aspects of television ranging from corporate video production through news and current-affairs, sports and light entertainment, to documentary and drama.
Run by a council of volunteer television professionals, the GTC is financed by subscription from its members as well as sponsorship from equipment manufacturers and suppliers. As a result, the GTC offers a channel for manufacturers to consult with working cameramen when designing new equipment. GTC membership is open to anyone employed as a television camera operator or in any associated occupation.
