Prism Sound helps José Gonzáles sound even sweeter

Electric Mastering, the most recent addition to the UK's mastering scene, has been using Prism Sound's ADA-8XR multichannel converter processor to master a variety of projects including the debut album Veneer from José Gonzáles.
The Scandinavian singer-songwriter is currently riding high in the UK singles charts and receiving extensive airplay with an acoustic cover of Kylie Minogue's Hand on Your Heart.
Based at Westbourne Studios, Electric Mastering was opened last year by Pete Hutchison whose aim was to create a state-of-the-art facility that combined the very latest digital equipment with the very best vintage analogue technology. To this end he has invested in a classic 1970s EMI TG12410 transfer desk that was once based at EMI's studio in Lagos, Nigeria.
Electric Mastering has also invested in a selection of Prism Sound units including a DA-2 96kHz, 24-bit D/A converter and an MEA-2 Precision Stereo Equalizer, which is designed for recording and mastering applications where ultimate sonic performance, musicality and precision are required.
The ADA-8XR used on the Gonzáles album was loaned to the studio specifically for the project. It has proved such a success that Pete Hutchison is now planning to buy it as a replacement for the DA-2.
"The open warm sound of the Prism Sound converters compliments the high quality of the masters produced here at Electric Mastering," Hutchison says.
Since opening, Hutchison and mastering engineer Mandy Parnell have mastered projects for a wide variety of artists including The Beauty Room, Be Your Own Pet, Memory Band, Gotan Project, Readymade F.C and Nouvelle Vogue.
