Mandy Parnell And Electric Mastering Are Nominated For A Tec Award

As the soundtrack to Apple's iPod Nano TV commercial, Feist's '1234' is not only one of the catchiest songs of 2008 but also one of the most successful, having charted in various countries including reaching Number 8 in the UK and Number 28 on the Billboard Top 100.
Now, alongside the four Grammy nominations Feist and her production team notched up earlier this year, '1234' has also been nominated for a Technical Excellence & Creative Award in the Record Production/Single or Track category, where she will take on the likes of White Stripes, Foo Fighters, Alicia Keys and Jay-Z.
The Grammy nominations and the TEC Award recognise the efforts of the entire creative team, which includes Mandy Parnell and the London-based mastering facility Electric Mastering who were responsible for the mastering of 'The Reminder', the album from which '1234' is taken.
Mandy Parnell is a highly acclaimed mastering engineer with an impressive roster of eminent clients from across the globe. She began her mastering career after graduating as an audio engineer in 1989. She went on to spend 14 years at The Exchange mastering facility in London before joining the newly established Electric Mastering in 2007.
Mandy, who is a member of the Audio Engineering Society and the Music Producers Guild (UK), is best known for her boundless energy, which she brings into the session in many forms, including her renowned crystals.
Artists who work with her come back time and again because they appreciate the unique sound she brings to their records and the dedication she shows to every project.
Her recent work for Feist is a perfect example of these ongoing relationships. Having mastered Feist's first album, 'Let It Die' (produced by Gonzales and Renauld Letang, which was released in 2004), she was delighted when Leslie Feist, Gonzales and Letang asked her to master 'The Reminder'.
The project was carried out using Electric Mastering's rare 1970s EMI TG12410 transfer desk, the only one currently in use outside of Abbey Road - and the only unmodified one in use in Europe.
Along with other vintage pieces including a Fairchild compressor and a 1950s EMI mono 1/4inch tape recorder, the studio also has the latest digital mastering kit, high end Prism Sound ADA-8XR multitrack converters, Weiss DS1 Mk3, a Pyramix digital workstation and Meyer X-10 monitors that offer a neutral, linear playback sound balanced and tailored to the room's acoustics.
Apart from Feist, Mandy has also recently mastered tracks for The Count And Siden Feat; Kid Sister; Vampire Weekend; Maxime Le Forestier; Mareva Galanter, Gotan Project, The Cribs, Gonzales, McFly, Roberto Alagna, Vashti Bunyan and Les Savy Fav.
The TEC Awards will be presented in October at a special ceremony timed to coincide with the AES Convention in San Francisco. Mandy added: "It is an honour to be nominated as part of the production team for Feist."
