VISIONTECH PROVIDES TECHNOLOGY TO S-A

VISIONTECH have entered into an agreement with Scientific-Atlanta (S-A) to supply an integrated, dual-channel MPEG-2 video/audio encoder that will enable Personal Video Recording (PVR) capabilities on S-A’s Explorer digital set-top boxes.
The new PVR technology enables viewers to freeze a ‘live’ program, instantly replay or rewind a programme being watched, skip ahead in a recorded program to their favourite movie scene, or view the next big play in a sporting event.
Viewers can also locate programs to watch and record with the touch of a remote control button.
PVR technology can monitor the viewer’s program preferences and record similar shows they might want to see at a later time.
VisionTech is a provider of integrated silicon solutions that enable MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and DV compression and decompression of video, voice and data content.
Applications for VisionTech’s products include cable set-top boxes, digital video recorders, home networking, satellite, terrestrial and wireless broadcast.
