German Federal Armed Forces use Telecasts's Digital Copperhead multiplexers
Telecast Fibre Systems has announced that its Digital CopperHead fibre optic multiplexers are being used by the German Federal Armed Forces to support video training for remotely stationed soldiers.
The 11 CopperHead units, which were supplied to Systemhaus BFE by Telecast's German distributor, Wira-Optics, are camera-mounted units that multiplex all of the bidirectional signals needed for remote video productions.
The Digital CopperHeads are being integrated with Panasonic SDX-900 camcorders to create a compact, portable production system primarily used for video training sessions for Germany's remotely stationed soldiers, who help rebuild foreign countries after wars. The videos serve two purposes: to provide information on the unique characteristics of the foreign country for the military and to increase awareness of the dangers of ammunition and explosives for the local populations.
"The CopperHead is an excellent solution for using video camcorders in the field, such as the German forces are doing, as it greatly reduces the size, weight, and transmission limitations of ordinary coax and multicore cabling," said Joe Commare, Vice President of marketing and International Sales Manager for Telecast.
"With a rugged fibre optic cable, camera operators can transmit the highest-quality audio and video faster and farther without having to worry about interference, grounding problems, or signal degradation."
Telecast's CopperHead is a portable fibre optic system that mounts directly onto ENG/DSNG cameras to simultaneously deliver both digital (SDI or HD/SDI) and analogue (NTSC or PAL) video. The transceiver module multiplexes all audio, intercom, data, and control signals required for remote broadcasts over a single durable, lightweight fibre optic cable.
Its superior transparency, bandwidth, and small cable size enable the delivery of signals up to 30 times the distance of ordinary coaxial or triaxial cable, with only one-tenth the weight. (CD/GB)
