VLV SEMINAR CONSIDERS BBC EDUCATION

FOLLOWING proposals for radical changes in the provision of schools and further education, Michael Stevenson, Joint Director BBC Factual and Learning, will be attending the ‘Voice of The Listener’ seminar to explain the policies involved.
There will also be a wide range of attendees and participants from primary, secondary and further education sectors.
The seminar will question if the new service will mean the end of BBC Education as a separate department, and whether the proposals will be ‘an improvement or politically expedient’. Gillian Reynolds, Radio Critic for The Daily Telegraph, will be in the chair.
The proposed changes will commence from September 2001, pending approval from the Secretary of State for Education. The BBC launched a public consultation in mid-September, which will end on October 20.
The seminar will be held on October 30 at the National Liberal Club in London from 6pm to 8pm. Tickets are priced at £10 each, VLV members and students £5.
