Race in the Media Awards now open for entries

The Commission for Racial Equality's (CRE) 'Race in the Media Awards' (RIMA) - is now open for entries.
The prestigious awards attract entries from across the media industry and seek to reward outstanding media professionals across film, print, broadcasting and new media sectors.
Winners are those who, in the opinion of the independent judges, have made a significant contribution to raising our collective understanding of the many communities that now make up our nation. Last year's winners included 'Coronation Street' for Best TV Soap, 'The Yorkshire Evening Post' for Best Local Newspaper and 'What Ron Said' by the BBC for Best Factual programme.
Trevor Phillips, Chairman of the CRE said: "This year, we've added 'Now, more than ever' to the RIMA logo because that's what we truly believe. After 30 years of the Race Relations Act and the CRE, we still live in a society where young men are murdered because of the colour of their skin and riots can be sparked by rumours fuelled by cultural differences.
"RIMA's goal is to make integration in our society a reality. The media industry has a leading role to play in helping us achieve this. Writers and broadcasters have a responsibility to ensure what fills the column inches or airtime is the complete picture, free from negative stereo-types and knee-jerk prejudices."
This year, especially to mark 30 years of the CRE, RIMA will include a Sports category. This is a special, one-off award is in recognition of the significant role sport has played as an agent for integration and to celebrate the successful 2012 Olympic bid.
The RIMA awards ceremony will be held on 14 June 2006 at the Royal Opera House,
London.
