Irish film Winter’s End seeks votes for Hollywood award
Irish film, 'Winter’s End', has been invited by Cinequest Online to compete in the prestigious 2nd Annual Viewer's Voice Awards.
A contemporary thriller set on an isolated farm in rural Ireland, carrying the tagline ‘Everyone who goes missing is somewhere’, the feature film was written and directed by Patrick Kenny and produced by Damien Donnelly. This is a first feature film for both, who began the project five years ago.
“Winter’s End is a film that defied the odds,” says Patrick Kenny. “It was made on a very tight budget by people who had never made a feature film before. Yet it has attracted amazing actors, has had great success to date and has now been invited to compete in California’s Cinequest Viewers Voice Awards.”
Winter’s End has been very well received, beating over 300 other films to take top prize for Best Picture at the Hollywood DV Festival in Los Angeles in December. The film was also a success at last year’s IFTA’s, resulting in a Best Music for Film Award (Gregory Magee) and a Best Irish Actress nomination for Jillian Bradbury who has since been selected for the highly prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in London. The film has also just finalised a world distribution deal with Cine International of Germany who will be screening Winter’s End in the upcoming Berlin and Cannes Film markets.
Patrick and Damien, while delighted with the success of Winter’s End to date are hoping to successfully compete in the Cinequest Online Festival this month. Cinequest, based in San Jose, California, is among the top 10 film festivals in the world and heralds the direction of future film distribution via the Internet.
Ten feature films will screen online this month and the film with the highest votes will screen in the festival in San Jose. Last year 1,800 films vied for one of these ten places. That number is believed to have topped 2,000 this year.
The competition will run until February 24th 2006 and you can vote for Winter's End by logging on to www.wintersend.net.
