CARLTON WINS SCOTS AIRTIME SALES CONTRACT
CARLTON Sales have won the airtime sales contract for two ITV licence franchises, Scottish television and Grampian Television.
Carlton sales will now be responsible for almost £1 billion of annual advertising revenue. The two ITV licences broadcast to 4.5 million people and accounted for 6.1 per cent of ITV’s net advertising revenue in 1999. Carlton will use their resources, research back up and expertise in advertising sales to handle the airtime sales for Scotland and maximise their value.
By combining the Scottish licences with Carlton’s existing portfolio, covering London, the Midlands, the West Country and Wales, Carlton will be responsible for 46 million per cent of all adults in the UK and 56 per cent of ABC1s.
Steve Platt, Managing Director of Carlton Sales, said: “Adding the Scottish stations to the Carlton stable gives us a stronger sell with a wider reach. We now sell from Land’s End to John O’Groats and cover three capital cities of London, Edinburgh and Cardiff. HTV and the Scottish stations together bring another 9 million people into Carlton’s sell.”
SMG, who own two licences, had ITV advertising sales of almost £120 million in the year ending December 31 1999.
Alongside their ITV regions Carlton Sales handles the airtime for 11 digital, cable and satellite channels, 2,170 cinema screens, and a growing number of websites and videocassette publishers.
