Expansive 2005 reported by Custom Consoles
Custom Consoles, Europe's leading manufacturer of high-grade furniture for boardrooms, offices and studios, reports an expansive and successful 2005.
The year began with a major extension to the company's Leighton Buzzard headquarters: 500 square metres of ground-level space have been added to the existing 680 square metre site.
This frees space in Custom Consoles' existing precision-cutting area for parallel manufacture of motorised, manually-adjustable and fixed-height desks. These include M-Desk, System 2 and the Module R range, as well as supporting furniture such as the MD5003 27U noise-reduction bay. The expansion also allows increased demonstration space to be allocated for Ergotron monitor monitor arms and workstation accessories.
Custom Consoles also expanded its management team with the appointment of John O'Byrne as Product Sales Manager. His career in technical sales management spans 28 years, having commenced at Data Maintenance Ltd which provided engineering services to the computer industry.
In 1982, he became joint managing director of Media Resources, a distributor of magnetic media products. From 1992 to 2001, he represented US-based Wrightline in Britain, initially on an independent basis and from 1996 on staff. For the past four years he was worked with Ergotron, helping establish it as a major player in the market for LCD monitor support equipment.
Ergotron named Custom Consoles as its primary distributor to the furniture industry. The agreement covers the Ergotron portfolio of digital display mounting solutions, including wall and desk mount arms.
Custom Consoles also announced a major upgrade to its M-Desk series of desks. Redesigned vertical support pillars constructed of extruded aluminium replace the earlier box-steel legs. At the centre of each pillar is a perforated aluminium plate, 1.5 mm in thickness, which is available in a choice of colours. The new design delivers the twin benefits of lighter weight and more attractive styling. The aluminium pillars are being implemented on both the height-adjustable and fixed-height M-Desks.
Notable contracts received during the year included delivery of the first in Custom Console's new range of Module-R technical furniture to TTL Video. A four-bay inline desk was chosen as part of the new TV and Radio studio complex ordered by The BBC World Service Trust and supplied to the new regional broadcaster Al-Mirbad Television based in Basra, Iraq. Four 10U bays with sloping front panels are located to the rear of the desk. These will house presentation control equipment.
Channel 4 Television ordered two large custom-designed desks for a presentation suite and nearby operations room. A seven-bay Custom Consoles desk in the presentation suite houses a Pharos 15-inch control screen, Trilogy and Drake talkbacks and a Pro-Bel presentation mixer. Eight 17 inch LCD panels are located immediately above the desk, used in conjunction with three wall-mounted 40-inch LCD picture monitors. In the operations room, a 5 metre width Custom Consoles desk houses all the technical support equipment required to control routing, ingest to disk and playout. The desk can accommodate four engineering staff.
