OPENTV INSTALL 11 MILLION STB’S WORLDWIDE

OPENTV, the interactive television and media solutions company, have announced that their OpenTV 'middleware' is now installed in more than 11 million digital set-top boxes (STBs) worldwide.
Deployments in the third quarter ended September 30, 2000, exceeded 1.7 million units, a record level for the company, and a 72 per cent increase from 1.0 million STBs shipped in the third quarter of 1999.
James Ackerman, President and COO of OpenTV, said: “OpenTV are focused on rapid deployments for all clients, and with more than 11 million STBs deployed worldwide, we’re clearly setting the pace for the interactive television industry. I believe that deployments are the best measure for success, and this new milestone clearly underscores OpenTV’s worldwide interactive television leadership.”
BskyB reported last week that they now have 4.1 million digital satellite customers, all with STBs powered by OpenTV.
OpenTV’s authoring tools are licensed to more than 600 independent developers and content service providers.
