‘The Polar Express’ is back at bfi London IMAX

Back by popular demand, ‘The Polar Express’ An IMAX 3D Experience returns to the bfi London IMAX Cinema on 4 November after its astounding, record-breaking success last year, when over 75,000 people came to experience the film on the South Bank.
The Cinema will also be showing three other 3D films this Christmas holiday - Tom Hanks’ ‘Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon’, ‘Wild Safari’ and ‘Alien Adventure’.
‘The Polar Express’ An IMAX 3D Experience (U) is the first full-length feature ever converted into IMAX 3D DMR (digitally re-mastered), making cinema history. For audiences, who wear special IMAX 3D glasses, the film appears to have depth beyond and in front of the screen. They become totally immersed in the picture… grasping at falling snowflakes, ducking as the train screeches into their lap and feeling the howl of the steam whistle via 12,000 watts of digital surround sound. Presented on a screen towering five storeys high - the biggest screen in Britain - it is an extraordinary cinematic experience.
This magical film looks set to make the bfi London IMAX Cinema a prime destination once again this Christmas, having thrilled both young and old alike a year ago. After unprecedented advance ticket sales, in December 2004 the cinema achieved its highest ever admissions for one month. In a 12-day stretch including Christmas Day and a special opening on Boxing Day due to demand, all 40 performances of the film were completely sold out. By the end of the four-times extended run in March 2005, the bfi London IMAX Cinema was No. 4 in the world and No.1 in Europe for box office sales for the 3D film, selling over US$1.2 million worth of tickets.
