Brick House Callisto-P chosen by Fillin Limited

Time and space are precious elements to Fillin Limited, a UK-based, broadcast technical training and production company.
So when the organisation required a fully featured, yet portable SDI/composite switcher, Brick house Video’s new Callisto-P fitted the bill.
“Callisto-P’s useful combination of SDI and analogue sources (with integral conversion) and its sheer portability made it the ideal switcher for Fillin,” said Phil Spiegelhalter, Principal Lecturer. “The unit is so compact that it meets airline criteria for normal luggage allowances which is a great advantage when I am giving training courses overseas, and it can be set-up and de-rigged quickly when I have limited access to a venue.”
Spiegelhalter placed the first order on day two of the five day IBC 2005 exhibition in Amsterdam where Callisto-P was introduced to the European market. He noted that the unit’s attributes will be tested at its first use in October at a Computer Fair in the Southeast of England where it will be mixing the Presentation Theatre.
Callisto-P is the latest addition to Brick House Video’s Callisto range of hybrid SDI/composite switchers. The unit is a low cost 6-input 270Mbit video switcher/mixer with 10-bit digital precision throughout. Its comprehensive list of features includes genlock, embedded audio/VBI processing, auto/manual dissolves and wipes with auto fade to black, industry standard editor protocol, GPI and RS422 remote ports and source ident. It incorporates both Frame Synchroniser modes, allowing any source to be included, whilst also offering the capability of changing to normal genlock operation for use in a fully-synchronised environment in the future. Callisto-P’s portability is reinforced by its rugged desk-top case and universal power-supply.
“The switcher follows the 'KISS' principle of avoiding unnecessary features (gimmicks) that divert design effort from the necessary basic functions, and increase the cost, whilst incorporating, standard, simple operation, a DSK, and test patterns. Its six sources plus Black and Test is sufficient to provide good camera coverage without losing Caption and Video Play-In facilities,” Spiegelhalter added.
