Virage's powers BBC Broadcast's navigation services

Virage has announced that its core technology will be powering BBC Broadcast's navigation services.
Demonstrated throughout IBC, these services allow content providers to generate maximum revenue from their rich media through BBC Broadcast's customized navigation tools enabling users to find, retrieve, download and play multimedia content on various devices.
Bringing together Virage's core technology (Autonomy's Intelligent Data Operating Layer) and BBC Broadcast's leading multimedia services, content owners and consumers are provided with endless opportunities for rich media manipulation. Services can be tailored for any brand, user profiling allows content to be targeted to specific individuals and users can build their own communities using the rate and recommend facility. In addition, users are able to search Electronic Programme Guides (EPG) and book downloads remotely using a mobile phone.
Using the latest digital rights management protection, the service ensures secure delivery via multiple delivery methods - streaming, multicast, download, P2P, etc. It can be delivered in multiple formats, such as MPEG2, MPEG4, Windows Media, QuickTime and RealMedia and content can be downloaded many times on various platforms including mobiles, windows media player and via a broadband connection.
Rowan Gardner from Virage, commented: "A new era of Rich Media Asset Management has dawned and content consumers expect to be able to access content on-the-go. Using Virage's core technology, BBC Broadcast's navigation services not only allow consumers to do this but they also provide users with increased value, offering facilities such as profiling and community creation."
Virage, a wholly owned subsidiary of Autonomy Corporation plc, and a visionary in Rich Media Asset Management technology, with a long and distinguished history of working with blue-chip corporations, media and entertainment companies, universities and government agencies worldwide.
