RED JOIN GROWING COMMUNITY OF CAKES USERS

UNIQUE ID Software Ltd, a company that specialises in asset tracking solutions for customers in the broadcast television, film and video post-production industries, have announced that London high-end post house Red are the latest company to join the growing community of CakeS users.
Red are to install a complete CakeS asset-tracking and production management system to enable the in-house, on-demand, desktop viewing of all video and data held within the facility, and to facilitate the exchange of materials with other CakeS users on shared projects.
The company also plans to extend a broader range of CakeS-enabled, remote-access services to clients involved in commercials, feature film, music video and broadcast graphics as part of Red-i, an online initiative to be launched in the New Year.
A browser-based system, CakeS can show users on-demand proxy (low-resolution) copies of any video, film or 3D stored within a facility. The CakeS system combines a unique identifier on tapes with a proprietary digitising station to create real-time, proxy clips of the original tape media, which can then be streamed across the Internet. All the user needs to access CakeS is a regular web-browser, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
"Managing your assets is becoming a bigger and bigger issue for post production houses and their clients," said Simon Leppington, Technical Director at Red. "These days everyone involved in the post production cycle needs to have faster, easier access to their media assets. Furthermore, we're doing more 2K data scanning from our Spirit telecine and more high-resolution 3D and compositing work than ever before, and moving these sort of materials around is very time-consuming. The beauty of CakeS is that it will make every frame in our facility available on any desktop. So along with improving efficiency in-house we can also provide clients, especially those overseas, with a wide range of remote, desktop services."
With the installation of CakeS Red joins the growing community of CakeS users in London, including Smoke & Mirrors, Moving Picture Company and P3 Post, who are all using the system to provide a range of client services.
