AFECT FILM SCHOOL FORCED OUT OF PREMISES
AFECT, The Advancement of Film Education Charitable Trust, have been forced out of their premises, and are now in great danger of closing for good unless they can find affordable premises, or a sponsor to help relocate the school.
Jeremy Ross, Founder and Head of Studies, has struggled, un-funded, to keep the school going and has been devastated following the actions of a Liverpool based Property Developer that have made the school homeless.
AFECT are unique in film education, offering opportunities to people of all ages, regardless of gender, race colour or creed, in an affordable, hands-on and easily accessible format.
The school ethos, and a key factor in the schools affective training, is that filmmaking should be available on as broad a base as possible. Students should not need to have an economically privileged background in order to learn and practice filmmaking.
John Le Brocq, the Representative for the group, said: “Since September 1999 I have written and directed two short films. All of the equipment to make a short film production is in the building , and we also have an equipment arrangement with a dubbing centre in Soho. The students should be able to see their films being broadcast, instead of them just sitting on a shelf, because it is worth taking them further. At the moment we are proposing a business plan which will be forwarded to the Film Council to see if we can get any funding.”
The group have called on members of the film and television industry, or people concerned with the future of the British film industry to help.
