BBC INVESTS IN TRAINING FOR 2001

SIMON Shute, Head of Broadcast Training at BBC Training & Development, announced the BBC’s plans for training at a recent industry open day.
The event was attended by senior industry professionals who were shown BBC Training & Development’s involvement in high definition television, multimedia and widescreen. Demonstrations were also shown about the assembly and monitoring of digital terrestrial television streams, video network systems and editing systems.
As one of the leading training providers to the worldwide broadcast industry, this on-going investment reflects the BBC’s commitment to training those working within the industry at every level and across all aspects of broadcasting.
Speaking at the Open Day, Simon Shute outlined the three main areas of training investment. He said: “Following the opening of extended facilities at Marylebone High Street site last year, we’re continuing to invest in equipment facilities. At our Wood Norton centre, the process of re-engineering the entire technical infrastructure is well underway and we’re busy re-equipping too, whilst at Elstree, we’re installing a brand new suite of training rooms and replacing the current editing facilities with four new Avid suites.
“Secondly, we’re committed to making it as easy as possible for our customers to deal with us so BBC Training & Development is now fully integrated.
“And thirdly, we are continuing to design and develop new courses in response to specific demand from customers. Recent examples include training surrounding the convergence of IT and broadcast networks in both radio and television, additional modules dealing with digital television and revised introductory training for those starting out in the industry as engineering, operational staff.”
BBC Training & Development’s new integrated course brochure is now available. Copies can be ordered via the website www.bbctraining.co.uk, by emailing [email protected] or by calling tel: +44 (0)870 1220216. (CD)
