S4C2 NOW AVAILABLE AT WESTMINSTER

S4C2, the digital channel broadcasting proceedings live from the National Assembly, have launched a new service that allows the channel to be seen at Westminster for the first time.
Huw Jones, S4C’s Chief Executive, said: “Bringing democracy and the democratic process into people’s homes is an essential part of public service broadcasting. We are helping to connect people with their government. Enabling people to watch their elected representatives at work. Examining and scrutinising the Welsh Government, creating policy and holding ministers to account. This is real active citizenship. I hope that by enabling MPs and staff at Westminster to receive this service we are also helping to create a new mutual understanding between the two bodies.”
The channel is a joint venture between S4C and BBC Wales. Produced by BBC Wales News and Current Affairs Department, ‘Live from the Assembly’ is a bilingual service offering authoritative analysis as well as fully comprehensive coverage of each plenary session.
Mena Richards, Controller of BBC Wales (pictured), said: “We are delighted that MPs in Westminster will now be able to have access to ‘Live from the Assembly’. The services are part of the BBC’s wide-ranging response to devolution, creating an invaluable bridge between the Assembly and the public and complementing our extensive coverage of events in Westminster and Brussels.”
The Welsh National Assembly coverage, first launched in September 1999, is now available to Parliamentarians in Westminster. (CD)
