A FRESH VISION FOR DVB’S FUTURE

THE FUTURE of the Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) consortium was unanimously agreed at the yearly meeting by their General Assembly.
In a ‘Mission Statement’ the DVB Consortium offer a forward-looking strategy that seeks to encompass the multiplicity of the Internet and the stability of established expertise in broadcasting. The new vision is the result of papers from the individual constituencies and a series of strategic meetings that discussed the future in a converging technological environment.
Theo Peek, Chairman of the DVB, said: “DVB have achieved what they were set out to do when they began in 1993 and it is now time to grow with the new challenges facing the ever advancing broadcast industry. The DVB are going to continue to do what they do best by going back to looking at the future with the provision of new, market led specifications.”
DVB will move forward to expand the range of technical solutions to include: the wide range of media content based services that now exist including interactive services; the range of delivery systems and protocols; mechanisms that allow the movement and consumption of content to be commercially exploited in a secure manner.
The DVB Project is an industry-led consortium of over 290 broadcasters, manufacturers, network operators, software developers, regulatory bodies and others in over 35 countries committed to designing global standards for the delivery of digital television and data services. (CD)
