PRO-BEL ECLIPSE IN BELFAST AND CARDIFF

BBC Belfast and BBC Cardiff have both chosen to install Eclipse, the advanced large-scale digital routing system from Chyron Corporation’s Pro-Bel Division.
The SDI Eclipse installation at Broadcasting House, Belfast, was carried out by BBC Consulting and Projects and will be used to carry out virtually all the main station video routing at that location.
BBC Belfast’s Eclipse is currently equipped 192 x 192 and is easily expandable to 256 x 256.
In Wales, BBC Cardiff are expanding their facilities and have also selected an Eclipse router to replace an existing SDI 64 x 64 Pro-Bel router. Developments in the digital presentation areas, together with additional routing capacity required as a result of the on-going refurbishment of existing facilities, is the driving force behind this investment.
The BBC Cardiff Eclipse is currently equipped 160 x 160 and is also expandable to 256 x 256. The router and associated interface equipment was installed by BBC Resources Wales.
Bryan Arbon, Pro-Bel’s product manager for routing and control, said: “The beauty of the SD Eclipse is not only its compact architecture, a 1024 x 256 router can be constructed in less than two bays, but its ability to be expanded in the field without disturbing the existing system. This means users can buy the router they need now and expand later to 1024 x 1024 with minimum effort.” (CMcL)
