Keyframe finish new film for Liverpool’s World Cultures Gallery

Leeds-based Keyframe, one of the north’s leading CGI specialist and new media production companies, recently won the commission to produce a short film promoting the World Cultures Gallery at Liverpool’s newest tourist attraction; World Museum Liverpool.
The exhibition displays a huge array of artefacts that have been brought into the city from around the world and tells the story behind how they arrived in Liverpool.
The world-renowned Liverpool-based poet Levi Tafari was commissioned to write, perform and present a poem to welcome the visitor and provide a brief insight about the exhibits and their legacy. Tafari was filmed in front of a green-screen and then superimposed onto an ever-changing background of sourced natural history footage and artefacts from various world cultures. The footage was then edited using a combination of multi-layering and animation techniques, which build up into an in-depth and interesting sequence as Tafari ‘urban raps’ his way through five minutes of poetic information.
Shown on two huge plasma screens at either entrance to the gallery, the video is a striking new style of museum promo work that wouldn’t look out of place on MTV.
The complex filming went relatively smoothly and only got slightly confusing at the end when the director Paul Browne shouted ‘It’s a rap’, and then added, ‘I knew that all along obviously’.
