GRASS VALLEY ANNOUNCE MEDIA AREA NETWORK

News Image
THE GRASS Valley Group have announced a Media Area Network (MAN) real-time shared-storage option.
The MAN option for the Emmy award-winning Profile XP Media Platform simultaneously provides users access to tools that reside on standard Windows NT-based networks, such as editors and gateways, and access to broadcast-quality video record and playout from Profile devices.
Tim Thorsteinson, President of the Grass Valley Group, said: "What the Grass Valley MAN real-time shared-storage option says is no more tradeoffs. It's essentially codifying what shared storage should be. No longer do broadcasters and other professional content creators have to make compromises between having access to broadcast quality and reliability and their tools of choice. The Grass Valley MAN architecture arrives at a pivotal time. It extends industry-standard file systems to deliver extremely high reliability coupled with unprecedented access to media."
A real-time, high-bandwidth, high-availability infrastructure built upon high-speed Fibre Channel technology, the Grass Valley MAN option provides more than 40 channels of video and more than 300 channels of audio that share a common RAID-protected storage network with thousands of hours of high-quality video and audio materials.
The Grass Valley MAN real-time shared storage option gets networking compatibility issues out of the way so that Digicasters can extract the greatest possible efficiency from their production workflows from ingest, editing, and browse to web publishing and transmission.
Enabling integration of third-party applications, it reduces disk storage requirements, provides centralized asset management, and offers features such as Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)-based remote monitoring and diagnostics while delivering real-time service for on-air playout and record activities.
