Bravo futureproofs with Quantel's multi-res post production system

Soho, London post house Bravo Post Production has purchased an eQ multi-resolution editing, effects, grading and versioning system from Quantel.
The system is configured with the QColor in-context grading option.
Set up seven years ago by Jonathan and Tracey Bravo as a dedicated non-linear facility, one of the first systems Bravo Post Production installed was a Quantel Editbox FX, which has been a mainstay of the company's business ever since.
Bravo has taken advantage of Quantel's 'Move on' scheme to transition from Editbox to eQ via an innovative trade-up deal. "For the type of work we do, the Editbox is still considerably quicker than most other systems," said Jonathan Bravo, "but the eQ gives us many more tools and a lot more potential in both SD and HD – as well as being one of the fastest systems out there. It is also rock solid – another Quantel virtue that carries forward from Editbox."
Around two-thirds of Bravo Post's work is broadcast programming and titles (such as the Saturday edition of the BBC's 'Top of the Pops'), the remainder being high-end corporate work – for example, the recent launch video for the new Land Rover Discovery.
"Most of our work is short-deadline, client-attended," said Bravo. "We need to start and finish a job in the time booked by the client. To do that, you need speed and reliability. Our Editbox has successfully provided that for the last seven years, hence our decision to purchase another Quantel system. There's no other system out there that can deliver that kind of performance without either using proxies or requiring post-processing."
Bravo also purchased the eQ with an eye to the future. "With more and more of our work coming through at HD, the eQ allows us to confidently handle any job – the eQ is in fact quicker at HD than most other systems are at SD."
