Macrovision announces presentation of first Fellow Award

Macrovision, the leader in content protection and digital rights management (DRM) technologies, has announced that Peter Newman is the first recipient of the Macrovision Fellow Award, the company’s most prestigious honour.
The award recognises individuals who have made significant technical or business contributions to the company.
Newman currently serves as Macrovision’s Senior Vice President of Business Development, and formerly as Vice President of Engineering. Newman has been a leading innovator at the company for the past six years where he has made major contributions by authoring 28 patents, founding and building the technology R&D organisation in the UK, the pre-eminent development organization in optical media security.
Presenting the award Macrovision CEO Bill Krepick said: “Peter created much of the intellectual property behind Macrovision’s CD media security and product activation solutions and was instrumental in developing several commercially successful optical-media based content protection and rights management solutions for the interactive software market since 2000, as well as music and DVD content protection products since 2002.”
Newman is one of the key contributors to Macrovision’s VeriBIT family of patents covering unique digital signature generation, disc authentication, payload protection, and selective enablement and web-linking of content on all current and next-generation optical media formats.
