RED CREATE A SENSE OF 'WELLBEING'

LONDON-based creative facility Red have linked up with FutureBrand English&Pockett to complete the identity package for newly launched network Wellbeing the joint venture between Boots and Granada Media.
Using their Spirit Datacine, Red carried out extensive grading on a series of idents and bumpers that began airing on March 14 on Sky Digital and ONdigital in the UK.
The live-action idents feature real people talking about and doing things that give them a sense of their own ‘well-being’. These include a mother bathing her children, a woman walking her dogs and a man who swims in ‘The Serpentine’ every day all year round.
Gary Szabo, Telecine Colourist at Red, worked with FutureBrand English&Pockett Director Mark Gardner, to achieve a tinted, colour wash effect. Using the layers of the MegaDEF colour corrector, Szabo isolated the colour to be retained in one layer and then selected the part of the picture to be tinted in another. Szabo and Gardner then chose tones and tints that complemented each other such as red and blue and blended them seamlessly to produce a subtle end result.
Szabo added that the Spirit/MegaDEF combination was ideal because all the colour sampling could be carried out at 2K allowing for a subtle end result that did not look either ‘posted’ or like a video effect.
