RTE SMOOTH PATH TO REORGANISATION

IN response to a recent reorganisation within RTE, the Irish State broadcaster have announced the opening of a Staff Development Centre.
A new concept in Irish business the Staff Development Centre at RTE is one of only a few in Ireland. The Centre will provide career advice, counselling and training for staff to develop career paths and opportunities in RTE’s HR, Finance, Sales and Marketing, Television and Radio Production, IT, Law and Public Relations departments.
Staff considering a career change or development within the organisation, the Centre offers individual career mentoring in a fully confidential environment, after which a personal career plan is put in place. To facilitate this process a number of programmes and workshops on career change and planning, personal development, skills identification, interview and CV preparation are available.
As result of the voluntary redundancy plan, the Centre also has special programmes for people who are leaving RTE on early retirement or severance packages. These include workshops on Business Start-up, Finance and Social Welfare, Mid-Life Career Change, and work options outside the organisation.
Jimmy Jordon, Branch Secretary for RTE, said: “It is an internal situation for people who work in the industry. It gives people the chance to attend classes and workshops which will help to boost their career. Although they are not guaranteed a job at the end of it all, they will still have learned more about the industry.”
The Staff Development Centre is managed by Stephanie Fitzpatrick who has 22 years experience within RTE. The team also includes two career counsellors, Brenda Moran and Pat Kavanagh, and Jane Martin manages the administration of the Centre. The Centre includes a reception, library area, seminar rooms, individual meeting rooms and IT facilities. (CD)
