PARAMOUNT CHANNEL SPONSOR ‘COMEDY SHORTS’

THE Paramount Comedy Channel have announced the sponsorship of ‘Comedy Shorts’ in association with the First Film Foundation.
Officially launching on May 1 2001, the nationwide competition will search for up and coming script writers and directors looking for their first break into the film industry.
The winner will have their short film made by the First Film Foundation towards the end of the year. The winning comedy short will then be screened theatrically across UCI cinemas, guaranteeing the winner nationwide exposure.
This initiative with the First Film Foundation has gained the support and admiration of both film makers and actors. Patrons of this year's ‘Comedy Shorts’ competition are top comedian and thespian Stephen Fry, leading British actor Richard E Grant and respected comedy writer and director Bruce Robinson.
Scripts, which must be submitted by Friday 6th July will be judged by a jury made up of people from within the industry. The shortlist will be announced during the Edinburgh Festival and the overall winner will be revealed in September 2001.
Jonathan Rawlinson, First Film Foundation, said: "With ‘Comedy Shorts’, the First Film Foundation hopes to create a platform for the plethora of comedy writing and performing talent that we have here in the UK. TV has successfully developed this talent for the small screen and we hope that this initiative will enable a new generation of comedy voices to reach and entertain mainstream cinema audiences."
