NECN opts for Network Electronics routers

NECN (New England Cable News), the largest regional cable news network in the US, is using routers from Network Electronics’ compact VikinX range to remotely transport audio and video signals from a remote camera position at the Cape Cod Times newspaper to its Studios nearly 100 miles away in Newton, Massachusetts.
“We cover a large geographic area and depend on our remote camera network to add local and regional personalities in the news to our coverage,” said Dave Beauvais, Director of Operations for NECN. “Network Electronics’ units help us to connect and control feeds from our remote cameras and other equipment, including videotape machines.”
By Request Communications, a broadcast systems integration company based in Marlborough, Massachusetts, designed and installed NECN’s system. The router configuration includes Network Electronics’ V1602 16x2 video and A1602 16x2 audio routers, which physically reside in the Cape Cod Times newsroom in Hyannis, Massachusetts, and are capable of falling under the control of one or several remote panels. Audio and video signals are transported to the studio via TV 1 fibre.
