S-Net Systems selects Espial Escape for IPTV set-top box

Canadian provider of set-top box and mobile handset software Espial Escape has announced that Korean-based S-NET Systems has selected Espial to deliver advanced capabilities for its Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) set-top box.
Capabilities in this STB will range from customised EPGs to more complex Video On Demand and full Internet browsing - including faithful rendering of Macromedia Flash content in the Espial supplied Macromedia Flash plug in.
Easy localisation was one of S-NET's mandatory requirements and instrumental in their selection of Espial technologies. The ability to support a variety of fonts, provide text encoding support, right to left capabilities and a framework to support integration of input method engines allows S-NET to deploy in multiple countries in multiple languages easily. Only Espial software supports localization to this level.
"S-NET is a company that prides itself on innovative approaches to technology," said Keeho Park, CTO from S-NET Systems. "In order to meet the needs of our global telco customers, our entrance to the STB market needed to have the most advanced capabilities - from Video On Demand to Web browsing - and needs to function in multiple countries, reflecting the international focus of S-NET. Embedding Espial Escape in our offering allowed us to offer a unique combination of TV-features alongside the advanced web standard compatibility."
Users of the S-NET STB can expect intuitive interfaces that make access to Video On Demand, Web browsing, email and chat services quick and simple for every level of user.
Customisation of the UI is easy using traditional markup languages like HTML, allowing telcos or carriers to create the look and feel that matches the brand.
By building these capabilities within a browser framework, applications, components and new technologies can be added as the need arises, future-proofing the design.
