FLYNN TO HEAD UP BBC'S COMMERCIAL OPERATIONS

THE BBC have appointed Roger Flynn to take overall responsibility for their commercial business-to-business operations.
Flynn will join the BBC’s Executive Committee and report to the Director-General.
BBC Director-General Greg Dyke said: "Roger is fantastically bright and energetic and will be a great guy to work with. His experience at the highest level across a range of businesses will be invaluable to us. I am delighted he has decided to join us."
In his new role, Flynn will take overall responsibility for both BBC Resources Limited and BBC Technology Limited. He will also be responsible for developing other commercial business-to-business operations within the BBC.
Achieving a first class Honours Degree in Physics at Imperial College in London before joining Arthur Andersen in 1984, Flynn then joined Virgin Group, as Corporate Finance Executive, responsible for new business development. In 1991, he became Commercial Director for Virgin Communications, Virgin’s international media group, growing their post-production, video games and radio businesses. He then moved to British Airways as General Manager, World Sales and Distribution where he developed a strategy that enabled a growth in revenues of £1bn. In 1998, he became Managing Director of Prudential Retail where he set about transforming the economics, culture and infrastructure of the business.

At the time of the last licence fee settlement, the BBC was charged with raising £1.1 billion by 2006 through savings, efficiencies and increased revenue.
Flynn will join the Corporation on June 1, this year. (SP)
