Smart Media Solutions’ CoSMOS chosen by Soho Studios Group

Smart Media Solutions, a leading provider of production, automation, media and asset management systems for the radio broadcast and postproduction industries, has just completed the installation of its CoSMOS automation system at Zoo, Jungle and Marmalade (part of the Soho Studios group) in central London.
The 10-studio strong audio postproduction facility installed CoSMOS to solve its need to tie various media and network systems together while retaining the existing workflow and technical infrastructure. Audio post infrastructure no longer only consists of wires, desk, digital editors and a few computers. These facilities consist of a whole range of networks, servers, databases, audio and video workstations, most of which serve a dedicated purpose.
“We wanted to streamline these different systems and to replace physical media with an electronic process. That’s where CoSMOS came into its own. It allowed us to install a complete managed solution,” said Steve Pasek, technical manager, Soho Studios. “We discussed our vision with Smart Media Solutions and they customised CoSMOS specifically for our existing infrastructure, workflow and software to provide the complete managed solution we were seeking to achieve.
Launched at IBC 2003, the CoSMOS system is a total production management solution that offers postproduction facilities and broadcasters the tools to build a customised professional production environment. It is a comprehensive open networking system for common storage. It integrates and manages different media formats, systems, production tools and resources in a simple, efficient and cost-effective way. It features an extensive Content Management System to allow effective browsing and searching, archiving and control of stored assets, usage monitoring and logging. Furthermore the system allows for remote access to assets with full security and support for multiple delivery formats with automatic background media format conversion where required.
