4MC PURCHASE EDIFIS
4MC UK, one of the major suppliers to international content distributors, have purchased a second ‘Edifis’ to augment the state of the art equipment that make up 4MC’s new dedicated Content Restoration Studio.
The EDIFIS is made up of two parts – THE BRICK, a high access speed, VTR compatible, storage element with up to 14 hours uncompressed 601 and THE STING, which includes SCRATCHBOX pen and tablet retouching, enabling dualsteam and channel operation vision mixing and a keyer.
Both elements are multi-standard, for example, they can run in either 525 or 625 and either system offers a fast, efficient and cost effective production platform, which can also be used in conjunction with any other Content Restoration equipment such as the Archangel.
As each correction is made it is ‘grabbed’ and replaces the previous damaged one. All this done in an uncompressed hard disk environment and the resulting frame is re-recorded at the press of a single button. There is no need for time consuming rendering.
Simon Kay, Managing Director of 4MC / CRS said: “With 4MC’s increasing workflow, the addition of the EDIFS has greatly speeded up the whole restoration process and has allowed us greater flexibility to enable us to deliver a high quality product, whether sourced form 16mm, 35mm film or even video.”
The EDIFS has been extensively used on the restoration of ‘Department S’, ‘Hammer House of Horror’ and various feature films all for Carlton International. This includes the recent-re-release on Valentines Day of David Lean's 1946 classic British masterpiece, ‘Brief Encounter’ and will be used on Series 2 of ‘Space 1999’ all for Carlton Video. Other projects include features such as ‘The Magnificent Butcher’ for Medusa Communications. (CD)
