Teranex to introduce ScratchOut at NAB 2003

Teranex, a leading provider of high-performance image enhancement solutions for digital media, are to introduce ScratchOut, a time-saving, film restoration tool, at NAB 2003.
ScratchOut is an application designed to enhance Teranex's StarFilm restoration product by adding real-time scratch detection and removal for film-originated standard-definition and high-definition material. ScratchOut will be demonstrated at Teranex's booth (C462).
ScratchOut is based on Teranex's proprietary DCR algorithm technology. DCR automatically detects, classifies and replaces over 80% of the scratches in a film in real-time, radically reducing the time traditionally required for repairing scratches. In the detect stage, the algorithm recognizes pixels that may be a scratch and differentiates those pixels from object edges.
These candidate pixels are then classified against a number of features and characteristics of a scratch to eliminate false detections. The pixels that pass the classification stage and are determined to be scratches are then replaced with grain-matched information from the surrounding area.
"StarFilm have established themselves as the premier noise and grain reduction system for film in post-production houses worldwide," said Janet Leising, Teranex's VP of Marketing. "The addition of ScratchOut to the StarFilm family again confirms how uniquely suited the Teranex platform is for our customers. This powerful new feature can be easily added to existing StarFilm installations through a simple software upgrade. The return-on-investment of a product that provides the proven performance of StarFilm with cost effective enhancements like ScratchOut is undeniable."
The Teranex Timeline Management System, the company's comprehensive control system facilitates the creation of a timeline defining scene-by-scene changes, assignment of specific DCR parameters and the control of ScratchOut¹s comprehensive processing features.
Teranex are a leading provider of high-performance platforms that utilise patented array processing technology and target real-time, compute intensive applications in the digital media market. Teranex products include format conversion and advanced noise reduction solutions for the broadcast, video and film industries.
Teranex operate from headquarters in Orlando, and maintain offices in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Denver and London.
