Network 2 renamed RTÉ 2

In the first phase of a three-phase process, including a new look and sound for the channel as well as new programmes, programming strands and acquired programmes, RTÉ Network 2 will be known as RTÉ Two from Saturday, October 2.
The culmination of over 18 months' research, analysis and development, this first phase will be built upon in phase two, in January 2005, and phase three, in Autumn 2005, when further commissioning rounds deliver more new programming. Throughout this time more new idents and interstitial material – channel identifiers that punctuate the schedule at commercial breaks – will be introduced which will express the personality of the channel.
Noel Curran, Managing Director of RTÉ Television, said: “We are adopting a phased approach to revamping RTÉ Two, with the first phase beginning now. RTÉ Two will be a multi-genre channel, delivering a comprehensive package of home-produced drama, entertainment and factual programming, sport and first-run acquired material. There will be a sustained, increased investment in new Irish programming on the channel over the coming years. It will also showcase the best international series available."
