IRISH BROADCASTERS TO PRODUCE SHORTS SERIES
FOR THE first time ever, all the television broadcasters in Ireland have joined together to produce a unique series of short films.
New filmmakers from throughout Ireland have made all the films on the theme 'Home'. They can all be shown on all the Irish channels, as this is the first time that broadcasters have created an open exchange of programmes.
In-keeping with the All-Ireland theme, the series was launched in both Belfast and Dublin on June 28. The Belfast launch took place at the Warner Cinema in the Odyssey Pavillion.
UTV in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Film Commission (NIFC) are producing 15 short films for the series.
Alan Bremner, UTV's Director of Programming, said: "We are absolutely delighted to be part of the ‘Home’ initiative. Ireland has a wealth of new filmmaking talent and these short films will provide the perfect opportunity for viewers all over Ireland to observe and enjoy their work."
Richard Taylor, Chairman of the NIFC, said: “This is a unique opportunity for the NIFC to develop new talent for the TV industry in Northern Ireland in partnership with UTV.
“We are delighted with the quality of the productions and the training expertise provided by UTV and we look forward to continuing this exciting initiative with UTV in the future.”
UTV's 15 short films are: ‘Keep It Coole’; ‘Brother Rab’; ‘It's A Dog's Life’; ‘Holy Family’; ‘Access All Areas’; ‘The Night Shift’; ‘Home & High’; ‘Away from Home’; ‘Refuge’; ‘The New Ice Age’; ‘Connected’; ‘Home From Home’; ‘Alone on Coney’; ‘Home for Good’ and ‘Oak Tree Farm’. (CD)
