SGL FlashNet maximises tape & DVD usage with defrag module

Software Generation Ltd (SGL), a leading provider of video storage management software, has added a defragmentation module to its comprehensive SGL FlashNet Archive Management Suite, allowing broadcasters' to maximise the media usage of their digital tape and DVD libraries.
In any broadcast facility, when files are deleted from tape or DVD, gaps remain with data scattered, meaning the media never retains its full capacity. Using SGL FlashNet, broadcasters' can now set their own limits as to how much media waste is acceptable. When the media reaches a predetermined low capacity point, due to deletion, the valid content is moved from tape or DVD - updating the SGL FlashNet database to point to the data's new location. When tapes no longer contain any valid material, they become re-usable for re-writing, maximising storage.
