Pro-Bel continues US sales growth with Deluxe Digital

Pro-Bel is continuing its US sales success with the announcement that Deluxe Digital Studios, part of Deluxe Media Services, owned by Rank Group plc, has ordered and installed a comprehensive Sirius router system at its Los Angeles premises.
The media management facility, specialising in DVD mastering, has also placed an order for Pro-Bel's cutting edge, PC-based Procion router control system.
Deluxe Digital Studios handles the compression and authoring of master DVD discs. It has a full graphics department, generating menus and some ROM content. It has also recently created a production group that handles bonus materials, including additional audio tracks. The creation of that group has been facilitated by a recent move into new premises.
In order to cope with this expansion, Deluxe needed to upgrade and expand its existing router system. Dave Luberda, Systems Engineer at Deluxe, said: "We have gone from five Final Cut Pros to 16 and we are also adding up to five Avid systems. Along with the extra compression and audio rooms, it was clear that we needed enhanced router capabilities."
Already experienced with Pro-Bel router technology through the use of a Freeway system in its previous building - configured 64 x 64 SDI, 64 x 64 AES, 64 x 64 timecode and 64 x 64 4:2:2 - Luberda selected Pro-Bel's advanced Sirius system.
Luberda added: "For the move, we installed a Sirius system equipped 128 x 128 for SDI and a 256 x 256 frame for AES. Taking advantage of the flexibility of Pro-Bel's technology, we then re-configured some of the existing Freeway technology for timecode and 4:2:2 and we added sync. We carry out a lot of both PAL and NTSC work."
The facility is also adding Pro-Bel's computer-based Procion router control system. This has several distinct advantages. Deluxe can use its existing network instead of laying more cables. In addition, this eliminates the real estate necessary for hardware panels on already crowded desks: operators will call up the software panels on the same screen they use for editing. But most important is the work environment.
"A session setup could be using 40 crosspoints by the time everything is taken into account,” continued Luberda, "With Procion, they can have customised screens that are picture-based, with a single mouse-click representing multiple crosspoint changes. This makes configuration easier than with any other system we have observed. Procion provides us with the flexibility and speed of execution that we require."
Graham Pitman, Pro-Bel Group CEO, said: "We are currently experiencing strong demand for a wide range of our products in the US. Our West Coast sales team has worked closely with Deluxe Digital Studios to ensure that it has received a prompt and accurate service from the company."
