Sledgehammer hits Jim Henson’s Creature Shop

Tyrell, a leading provider of technology to the UK post-production and broadcast industry, has announced the first European sale of Sledgehammer, network attached storage (NAS) system from Maximum Throughput to Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
The leading London-based animation and visual effects company will use the system to manage the large amount of data it produces for its range of film, commercial and broadcast projects.
Sledgehammer is a combination of commodity hardware and smart software, optimised for moving data at unparalleled speeds on or off an IP-based network. Sledgehammer can consolidate all the storage needs of a post-production facility regardless of the data sets in use. Additionally, the fact that Sledgehammer is a true NAS device means that regardless of the client platforms in use (e.g. Windows, UNIX, Linux, Mac, etc.), all can access the same data at the same time.
Aurelio Campa, Technical Manager, CG, at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop said: “With a large variety of projects and an enormous amount of accompanying data we needed a shared storage system that was able to cope at highfast speed and that was flexible to our needs. After trailing various other solutions we found Sledgehammer the only one to fit our requirements. Its advanced and unique technology will mean that we can move with it in the future – the HD input/output card module being a major part of this.”
Tyrell as the UK’s exclusive reseller for Maximum Throughput will also provide technical support to Jim Henson’s Creature Shop.
“Tyrell is pleased to provide Jim Henson’s Creature Shop with this amazing shared storage system and look forward to providing other companies in the post-production community with it due to the benefits of having an agnostic platform and HD capabilities,” said Simon Brett, Managing Director, Tyrell.
Maximum Throughput( www.max-t.com ) is a networked storage developer whose products deliver SAN level performance over TCP/IP. Claiming many times the storage bandwidth of other NAS/SAN products, and the lowest cost-of-ownership in their class, Maximum Throughput use software that runs on industry standard hardware.
With premises in London, Bristol, Manchester and Dublin, Tyrell supplies and supports customers across the UK and Ireland. The company’s product portfolio includes Discreet, Avid, Softimage, Digidesign, Apple and other software and hardware products.
