Arkivum Guarantees 100% Data Integrity With New Storage Solution
Arkivum will introduce its fully transparent data archiving service to the broadcast and entertainment market at IBC 2011.
Arkivum's unique approach to data safety and security will give customers complete assurance of the safe storage of their company's data.
The highly cost-effective service from Arkivum relies on industry leading LTO/LTFS data tape technology and open standards to deliver fast and efficient online access. The solution uses a gateway appliance that sits on the customer's network delivering the archive as a single file system so search, find and retrieval of data can be achieved quickly and easily, simply by finding the right folder and dragging it back.
At less than half the price of keeping data on in-house SAN solutions, the Arkivum system will not only deliver significant cost savings to businesses but also provide users with online access in less than five minutes. Furthermore, the Arkivum data archiving service is highly power efficiency, dramatically reducing customers' power consumption and heat generation and offering a carbon footprint estimated at one tenth of a typical in-house solution.
Jim Cook, CEO at Arkivum, said: "The Arkivum service is even more secure than a company's own files. The data is always 100% safe because we maintain three copies at all times - two in our data centres and one held offline, locked away in a third party escrow service. This gives customers that essential peace of mind - they have guaranteed access to their data no matter what happens to our service and we know that we can recover from any catastrophe."
Jim Cook continued: "We have used our deep knowledge of retaining and archiving data to come up with the ultimate solution for the media sector where guaranteed safe storage of data and quick and simple access is absolutely crucial. The system is ideal for film, post and broadcast workflows. Uses include secure offsite storage of file-based assets during the production process, long-term archiving of finished projects, or simply a way of freeing up in-house capacity on storage resources that are always under pressure. Our service makes it very easy to move data offsite and retain it for whatever time frame our customers need."
Dedicated to developing solutions for the long-term protection of data, the Arkivum solution is built on years of experience in retaining and archiving of data thanks to a close working relationship with the University of Southampton IT Innovation Centre with its world-leading expertise in digital audio-visual archiving.
Arkivum's CTO Matthew Addis - in his continuing role at the IT Innovation Centre and as part of PrestoPrime project - will participate in IBC's conference discussion entitled Archive Technology -Retaining, Restoring and Repurposing the Repository on September 11 2011 from 4pm to 5:30pm.
