Axia introduces new audio routing controller
Axia Audio has announced the release of its Router Selector Node, a unique new router control device built specifically for the Axia IP-Audio networking system.
Like traditional router control panels, the Router Selector Node allows operators to quickly scroll through available audio streams, or use one of eight instant radio-style buttons to select audio sources. But, unlike most controllers, the Router Selector node adds built-in audio inputs and outputs for convenient connection of local audio equipment.
"Many of our clients have news, edit, voice-over or production rooms in which they need instant access to networked audio streams," explained Axia president Michael Dosch. "And sometimes these rooms will need to send their work to another destination in real-time. The Axia Router Selector node makes this easy."
Broadcasters can now build audio networks of any size using standard Switched Ethernet to connect a few rooms - or an entire facility. Because an Axia audio network can carry hundreds of digital stereo audio channels over standard CAT-6 cables, much of the cost normally associated with wiring labour and infrastructure is eliminated. The Router Selector Node is a part of a family of Axia audio nodes that also eliminates PC sound cards and allows easy mixing and matching of digital, analogue and microphone audio.
The Router Selector node allows fast and easy user access to any source on the Axia network. Using the front-panel scroll wheel, users can scroll through an on-screen list of available feeds; frequently-used streams can be mapped to any of the eight radio buttons for immediate access. The scroll wheel also doubles as a volume control for the front-panel headphone jack, allowing users to preview and audition available audio streams. Back panel features include XLR and RJ45 jacks for analogue and digital audio I/O, a sync port for connecting to a house master clock, and, as with all Axia audio nodes, an auto-switching fanless power supply for silent in-studio use.
