CHAIRMAN LEAVES CCG
MATTHEW MacIver will relinquish his position as Chairman of Comataidh Craolaidh Gaidhlig (Gaelic Broadcasting Committee) on August 14 2001.
He has held this position since January 1995 and has been a member of the Committee since their inception in January 1991. The Independent Television Commission will advertise the Chairman’s post within the next few weeks.
MacIver said: “Next month CCG will be unveiling their annual report for 2000/2001. That is an opportune time for me to pass the baton to a successor. It has been a great privilege to have been a member of the Committee since the very beginning. The progress made in the last ten years has been significant and we now await the arrival of a comprehensive Gaelic broadcasting service with its own dedicated TV channel. I am grateful to all the Committee members and the staff of the CCG who have given me so much support over the years. I wish the Committee well as it enters a new phase in its development.”
John Angus MacKay, Director of Comataidh Craolaidh Gaidhlig, paid tribute to the important contribution that Mr MacIver has made not only to the orderly evolution of CCG but to the substantial growth of Gaelic broadcasting over the past decade. MacIver has had an illustrious career in educational management. Educated at the Nicolson Institute and Edinburgh University, his subsequent vocation as an eminent educator culminated in his appointment as Rector of the Royal High School of Edinburgh, Scotland’s oldest school. In his present position of Chief Executive and Registrar of the General Teaching Council, to which he was appointed last year, he is responsible for the accreditation of all teacher-training courses in Scotland, school and college liaison, and relations with the Scottish Executive Education Department.
