CCG funded Gaelic programme goes to the Highlands

In the final programme of the Comataidh Craolaidh Gaidhlig (CCG) funded programme 'Na Drobhairean', the focus will be on the Highland drovers.
Presenter Peter Macaulay will examine the ways in which the drovers enriched the songs, stories and poetry of the Highlands during the Scottish and Grampian Television screening on Sunday 10 February at 6.30pm.
Scotland's drovers enhanced the economic well being of rural communities as they plied their trade from the north and west to the markets of the lowlands. They also contributed a great deal to the culture of the country.
Well-known Gaelic entertainer Norman Maclean tells how his grandfather won a prestigious medal for Gaelic song at the Falkirk market at the turn of the 20th century. In fact, that there are many people who believe that the Royal National Mod emerged from the song and story telling sessions the drovers enjoyed after walking their animals through some of the most spectacular scenery in Europe.
Dr John Macinnes talks about the history of the poem's songs, which are sung by Calum Cameron and Willie Macdonald.
The sixth-part series was produced by Kenyon Communications.
