‘Mini Masterpieces’ comes to Wales

Sgrîn Cymru Wales is calling budding Welsh filmmakers to come forward to represent Wales in the national Mini Masterpieces Competition.
Mini Masterpieces is a special scheme that has been developed to encourage the production of short films. It forms a part of the Bristol-based Brief Encounters Film Festival which is now in its 10th year and takes place over five days in November.
Brief Encounters, South West Screen, BBC 3 and Sgrîn Cymru Wales have teamed together to offer Welsh applicants the opportunity to win an expenses paid filmmaking visit to Bristol and the exciting Brief Encounters Short Film Festival.
Two films from Wales will be chosen to go through to the selection process in Bristol, and one Welsh project is guaranteed to be produced during the Festival. The three crew members and two actors from Wales that are attached to the project will also be taking advantage of the experience. The resulting films (to be no more than three minutes long) will be premiered at the Festival Awards Ceremony on Saturday November 20.
"We are very excited to be a part of this challenging scheme and look forward to seeing the Welsh participants being put through their paces alongside the other filmmakers. It is a great opportunity for new Welsh filmmakers to make a film, get noticed and receive expert advice from some of the industry's top professionals," said Rhodri ap Dyfrig, scheme coordinator at Sgrîn.
Filmmakers applying need to demonstrate some previous experience of filmmaking and all crew members need to be over 18; students studying in Wales are eligible to apply. The scheme encourages applications from all sectors of the community whatever their ethnic or national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religious or political beliefs.
The closing date for applications is September 13. To find out more and get an application form go to the funding section of sgrin.co.uk/production.
