MURDOCH AND MALONE TO ATTEND CAMBRIDGE CONVENTION

RUPERT Murdoch and John Malone will head a list of global media players participating in this year’s Cambridge Convention 2001, to be held at King’s College in Cambridge from September 13 to the 15.
The Chairman and CEO of Newscorp and the Chairman of Liberty Networks will both give their views on trends in the media industry in Britain and around the world, during a panel discussion, on September 14.
The Rt Hon Tessa Jowell MP, the Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, will open the Convention with a keynote speech on September 13.
Other confirmed participants in the Convention include Dawn Airey, Charles Allen, Tony Ball, Michael Jackson, Steve Morrison, Adam Singer and Mark Thompson.
Sessions will cover the UK’s role in the global market, the economics of digital television, the tensions between broadcasters and content suppliers, and branding. The Convention will continue on September 15 with a session, led by Dan Tapscott, author of ‘Digital Capital’, on new technology and will end with a debate on the future of public service broadcasting.
Tony Ball, Chief Executive of BSkyB and Chair of the Convention Planning Committee, said: “This year’s Convention will examine the business side of the industry and address the commercial issues facing media companies in an increasingly competitive global market. I am delighted that Rupert Murdoch and John Malone have agreed to take part in the global media panel. The presence of such high profile international media business leaders will bring an added dimension to this year’s Convention.”
