Express Media Acquires Ikegami UHK-X700 4K UHD Camera Systems

News Image
Express Media has expanded its rental portfolio with the purchase of Ikegami UHK-X700 4K UHD camera systems and BSX-100 25G optical fibre base stations.

Three complete systems have been delivered, each including camera, viewfinder, OCP-300 remote operation panel, BSX-100 base station and 500 foot SMPTE fibre cable.

"We offer comprehensive production equipment rentals and support for single and multi-camera productions in all formats, including 4K and HDR," commented Steve Barger, President of Express Media. "We also offer post-production and webcasting support to our wide range of clientele. The new UHK-X700 cameras and base stations expand our existing fleet of Ikegami camera equipment, which includes HDK-97A and HDK-95 cameras together with BS-98 optical-fiber transmission links. Our rental products are offered both for dry hire and as part of our full-service production activity, so reliability under all conditions is vital. Ikegami cameras are in strong demand for their ability to deliver excellent video quality in even the most challenging environments. They are sturdily built, ergonomically excellent and backed by unsurpassed technical support."

"As the leading video production rental house in the San Francisco Bay Area, Express Media requires the very best in technology and reliability in order to meet the heavy demands of their environment," added Catherine Craven, Western Regional Manager at Ikegami Electronics (USA). "We have had the honour of Steve and his team consistently turning to us, entrusting the Ikegami brand to deliver on these needs with much success in a highly valued partnership."

A recent addition to Ikegami's UNICAM XE 4K series, the UHK-X700 is designed for use in studio or outdoor applications and couples with the BSX-100 base station or CCU-X100 camera control unit. At the optical front end are three ⅔ inch CMOS 4K sensors with a global shutter which provides freedom from rolling-shutter distortion and flash-banding artifacts. Full HDR/SDR support is provided plus the ability to choose between BT.709 and BT.2020 colour spaces. High frame-rate shooting at up to 2x speed in 4K or up to 8x speed in HD via the base station is possible as an option for applications such as capturing fast motion in sport or stage events. Express Media's cameras are also equipped with additional Ikegami custom-built internal moiré filters which greatly reduce artifacts when on-set location backgrounds consist of large or multiple LED video walls.

When combined with the Ikegami BSX-100 base station, the UHK-X700 allows cable lengths of more than 3,000 yards including power to the camera head. Simultaneous output in HD SDR and UHD HDR video formats is supported. The BSX-100 features transmission of six SDI video channels to the camera head, including four returns and two prompter signals. 4K-UHD video is available as a 12G-SDI feed directly from the camera head, allowing the UHK-X700 to be integrated into a wireless system. The camera weighs only 11 pounds and comes with a B4 lens mount. Optical sensitivity is F10 when operating at a frame rate of 59.94 Hz, both in UHD and HD.

Ikegami’s OCP-300 controller supports Ikegami's conventional one-by-one ICCP and Arcnet based control systems plus Ethernet based control. It includes a touchscreen LCD with rotary encoders plus a memory card slot for full camera setup and filing capability. The OCP-300 also supports PoE, powering over Ethernet, so separate power supplies are not necessary.
