MYTV NETWORK APPOINTS NEW MD
MYTV Network, the local Portsmouth television station has a new Managing Director.
Steven Harris took over as Managing Director in place of Martin Tidd who is now concentrating on developing the rest of the network in Southampton and Bournemouth. Steve Harris’s broad remit is to further development and evolve the local programming content as well as looking after the management of the whole operation.
Steve Harris said: “Local television and making local television work really well effectively is one of the last big challenges in the media. Research carried out by the ITC (Independent Television Commission) has shown that the one element that people really value and really want from their television services is a strong local element. With ITV companies, like Meridian covering regions that have bigger populations than all the Baltic states put together, its is hard for them to get as close to individual communities as we have already proved we can do in Portsmouth.”
Harris is an experienced broadcast journalist with more than 25 years in local broadcasting and local broadcasting training going back to the earliest days of local radio. Steve was the founder and launch director of Pennine Radio in Bradford in 1975 where he worked for five years. In 1980 he moved into regional television first with Southern TV and then with TVS as a newsreader and reporter on their nightly new magazine programme Coast to Coast.
Since 1992, Steve has worked on a range of media projects including writing a number of radio applications, including the successful Solent Regional Radio Ltd application, which is now on air as Wave 105 and for Westmoreland Radio, which was awarded a valuable licence for the Lake District last year.
